The Embassy of Japan in Greece, with the kind support of M/MARITIME, organizes the Run For Tokyo virtual run, to celebrate the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games 2020 and actively support all athletes competing with no spectators under difficult conditions.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, athletes from all over the world will not compete in full stadiums and families and loved ones will not be able to watch from the stands to encourage them.

Let us participate in the Run For Tokyo virtual run to show our support to all the athletes around the world and wish them good luck for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games 2020.

Registrations open on, Friday, 9th July 2021.

In this run, you can select the distance (5km or 10km) indicated in the registration form at any place, on any day, at any time, from the 9th to the 23rd of July 2021.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to run their specified distance one or more times, improving their time, which will lead to a promotion in the ranking of the results of the race.

Registration for the Run for Tokyo virtual race is free. Those who complete their course and successfully upload their result to the application will have the opportunity to choose to receive a commemorative medal with the logo of the Run For Tokyo.

All participants will receive a digital commemorative diploma for participating in the events of the Olympic Day June 23.

The event is under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the Hellenic Paralympic Committee, the International Olympic Academy, the General Secretariat of Sports of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Municipality of Athens, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece and is part of the International Olympic Committee’s celebrations for the Olympic Day June 23 – the day of its foundation in 1894 and the assignment of the Olympic Games in Athens.

PARTICIPATION GUIDE

1. Registration

Register by clicking on the Sign-Up button.

Package #1 includes:

– Participation in the virtual race and results
– Digital registration number
– Digital participation diploma

Entry fee: 0€

Package #2 includes:

– Participation in the virtual race and the results
– Digital registration number
– Digital participation diploma
– Commemorative medal

Entry fee: €5.00 for shipping of medal within Greece and €10.00 for shipping abroad.

2. BIB number

After completing your registration and payment, you will receive an email with your registration number (BIB number) within 2 days after your payment has been verified.

3. Duration and Location

You can run or walk the distance you choose, anytime from 9th July to 23rd July 2021, anywhere in the world.

4. Results

After completing your route, take a photo proving your achievement (from your smartwatch or screenshot from your mobile phone) and click on the Submit Your Results button to enter your details, BIB number and time and upload the photo with your achievement.

You will have the opportunity to run as many times as you like and improve your performance with a single submission.

The results will be updated every 2 days.The run ends on 23rd July 2021, and results will be finalized the next day. Run for Tokyo has no electronic timing and no judges. The whole project depends on each runner’s code of honor. It is not winning that counts, it is taking part.

5. Take a Selfie and Nominate

We are running in support of all athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games.
